Can’t Hear Yourself Think When Your AC Is On?

Air Conditioning Repair Tips for Noisy Units

When you are dealing with a noisy central air conditioner condenser, your air conditioning repair solutions are varied indeed, however, it could also be that the unit is just too old and needs to be replaced entirely. Continue reading the blog post of Selsis Air Conditioning Corpus Christi to find a few tips to help you find a solution.

Problem: Noisy air conditioner

The exterior condenser of a central air conditioning unit is often quite loud. Read on to find the best solution.

Solution:

Fencing that is installed on either one or all sides of an air conditioner’s exterior unit will greatly deflect the noise. However, try an experiment beforehand. Prop up some plywood around the unit in order to determine how much good a fence will really do. Should you decide to build a fence, then make sure that it is kept at least 3 feet from the unit in order to allow good airflow. For the best sound reduction, make sure you overlap the fence boards instead of leaving gaps. Apart from a fence, there are some other approaches you can try, which are mentioned below.

When your condenser is old, your best bet will be a new unit. Newer designs are much quieter than those made a few years ago. Also, they save money. A high-efficiency unit may often reduce your cooling bills in half, meaning it will eventually pay for itself in a few years. However, the downside, of course, will be the initial outlay.

When you have a newer condenser, the worst noise will probably be coming from the compressor. As fans on the newer units are usually quite quiet. Contact the manufacturer to ask about a sound blanket for your model, or you can try a universal blanket, installing these is easy. However, don’t bother putting one on an old unit, as you will still hear the noisy fan.
